Issues on health care access have recently been put in sharp relief, as the current COVID-19 pandemic highlights the importance of strengthening health infrastructure and workforce around the world. There are many factors influencing access and utilisation of health services that need to be considered, including physical and virtual access, quality of services provided, and cost and affordability.
In this Call for Papers, PLOS ONE welcomes studies exploring these different aspects: from interventions targeted to improve accessibility, quality and equity, to economic evaluations of health policies and service management, to qualitative research exploring patients’ and providers’ perceptions and outcomes of service delivery, to epidemiological studies on service availability and population health outcomes in times of health stressors.
