The efficacy and safety of a drug is highly impacted not only by how it is designed, but also by how and where it is delivered. In recent years there has been significant progress in the formulation of different drug delivery systems to improve the release and pharmacological profile of therapeutic drugs, reduce side effects, and enhance targeting to specific tissues and cell types. In this Call for Papers, we welcome submissions that report on the various properties of drug delivery systems, including drug formulations and pro-drug approaches, synthesis of nanoparticle and exosome carriers, vaccine delivery, gene delivery, and co-delivery systems. The Call will also encompass in vitro and in vivo studies that focus on how the routes of drug administration impact drug delivery systems, drug bioavailability, toxicity, and pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic drug profiles. We welcome submissions that deal with computational studies of drug delivery systems or consider aspects of reproducibility in this complex interdisciplinary field. Submissions that focus on the clinical applications of delivery systems, including tumour targeting and infectious diseases are also highly encouraged.
